DIY: Homemade Lemon-Lime Soap Bars

Have you tried your hand at making homemade soap yet? If not, this is the perfect recipe to give it a try. These DIY lemon and lime soap bars are so simple to put together and smell absolutely divine! 

Fresh zest from lemon and lime give this soap a lovely burst of color, and a fragrance that is nothing short of delightful.

What’s great about this soap recipe is that I can use it as a base, and play around with different combinations of scents, colors, and essential oils. This allows me to create all kinds of totally unique homemade soap recipes!

DIY Lemon & Lime Soap

You will not believe how simple it is to make your own lemon and lime soap, infused with essential oils.

Prep Time 5 minutes

Additional Time 4 hours

Difficulty Easy

Materials

• ¾ pound, melt & pour goats milk soap base
• ½ tablespoon, fresh lime zest
• ½ tablespoon, fresh lemon zest
• 20 drops, lemon essential oil

Tools

• Silicone soap mold
• Large Pyrex measuring cup
• Wooden stir stick
• Zester (or cheese grater)

Instructions

1. Zest a lime, using a cheese grater or zester. Pat dry with paper towels.
2. Zest a lemon using a cheese grater or zester. Pat dry with paper towel.
3. Cut the soap base into 1 inch chunks. Melt the soap base chunks in the microwave for 30 seconds. Stir. If it is not completely melted, put it back on for 10 second increments, until fully melted; stirring each time.
4. Add the lemon and lime zest.
5. Add lemon essential oil. Mix well.
6. Pour the soap mixture into the silicone mold.
7. (Optional) Lightly sprinkle with more lemon and lime zest on top of the liquid soap mixture.
8. Mist lightly with rubbing alcohol to help reduce bubbles.
9. Let set for about 3-4 hours.
10. Remove from mold. Using the straight scraper, cut the soap into 2 inch bars.
    

Notes

• You can speed the process up even more by transferring the mold to the refrigerator after it sets for about an hour.
• To stop bubbles from forming in melt and pour soap, fill a small spray bottle with rubbing alcohol and lightly spritz the soap when you are done pouring.
• Play around with your ingredients and come up with different combinations of scents and colors.
